The Importance of Diet and Food Quality to your Health and Wellness.

Thank you for visiting our practice’s website and taking time to see what we can offer you and your loved ones.

Sometimes simple wisdoms which are freely given can be overlooked, as the technical advances of our times, lead us more and more towards a less organic way/natural way of treating and healing our minds and bodies. There is a lot to be said about the advantages and disadvantages of our rapidly developing technical age, but the purpose of this discussion, is to give a simple reminder of what I believe is a useful health tip:

  1. The exact issue in focus here, is the importance of our diet to our health. It is now well known that our digestive system contains many micro-organisms, that help with healthy digestion and absorption of the food we eat. It has been proposed and discussed for years, that the diet which emerged in many parts of what is called the Western World, is responsible directly for many Chronic Disease states, because it has altered the normal microbiome [the normal bacteria in the digestive system]. This diet if it can be summarized, is a diet rich in unhealthy fat, high in added sugars and refined carbohydrates. It is low in fiber, vitamins and minerals.

  2. To further complicate our diets, the soil from which many of the food is sourced from, is not the same quality of soil that was present before harmful pesticides poisoned the farmlands. There is also the little discussed matter about the quality of the seeds which are being planted. Finally, the antibiotics found in many of the livestock and foods, destroy directly the microbiome of the digestive system.

  3. A recent article detailed the work being done at London’s Francis Crick Institute. The scientists at the institute have linked the surge of Autoimmune diseases over the past 40 years, to the typical Western style diet, a diet which has spread like wildfire throughout most of the globe. The scientists have concluded that since they cannot stop the spread of the “fast food” diet, they hope to treat auto-immune disease by finding the genetic sequences which make some people more vulnerable to the harmful effects of a diet which is becoming prevalent around the world.

  4. Simple solutions should not be discarded in favor of complex/expensive and elaborate ones, because the latter appear to be an “advancement”. At this practice the philosophy is to try as Natural a healing method as is possible. It is best to aim towards accessing and eating healthy food. It is difficult to access such food, but not impossible. This is not in any way a critique of whatever genetic treatments may be developed to treat Autoimmune diseases. It is a reminder and a guide, that while waiting for such treatment, should it be safe and available, you can Start now to improve your Health by paying attention to what you eat and drink, and where it comes from.
